URBAN VIDEO PROJECT

My Directed Research cohort got a unique opportunity to have our films projected onto the facade of Syracuse’s iconic Everson Museum. I created a 12 minute cut of various pieces of my short film to present a condensed version of my narrative. While the immersive quality of my piece is key to the experience, this alternative venue provides a conceptual counter-site to my basement installation. Rather than embodying the “hidden” nature of queer nightlife that has allowed these spaces to operate as transformative places of liberation, my films are made public, allowing these spaces to claim a spot in the urban fabric, if even for a moment. This is a powerful way of arguing that these spaces can exist in the shadows but at certain moments can be thrust into the public sphere as a means of claiming space.
