QUEER NIGHTLIFE AS FLEETING!

A pulsing heartbeat is underneath all of the films which creates a bass-like, somewhat eerie vibration as one travels through the space. The other throughline is snippets from Julian Eastman’s piano piece “Gay Guerilla.” Occasionally, all of the films will show the same clip at once for a few seconds. The fourth film is Queer Nightlife as Fleeting. This is a two screen projection with one speaker. Each of the film flashes with a strobe-like effect and projects onto the array of ducts, heaters, and columns that fill the “backstage” area of my installation. The various depths of these existing objects create a play with scale as the films stretch around them.The visual component is queer archival home videos, fleeting club moments, zoomed in footage of artifacts, and cutouts of phones recording performances. The sound component is my personal reflections on walks, gossip, snippets of conversation, laughter, and casual interviews and conversation.
